Working as an Outsource Manager

We joined Anastasia for a day of collaboration, co-devs, and cheese!
How many people does it take to create a video game? Depends on the game, the people, and the studio. In our case, our goal is to develop a high-quality, AAA, action-packed open-world narrative with a studio of 100 people and a selection of expert co-dev partners. In the heart of this cross-collaboration is Anastasia, who manages all the studios and freelancers that work with our internal Art Team. We followed her around for a day and asked her some questions to find out more about what this entails!
I love that I get to do a lot of planning and I get to solve different issues every day. It’s fun to use the brain muscles and see how the plans you made come to life together with the efforts of the whole team. Another important thing for me is that this job allows me to work with art and support those who are creating it. I constantly communicate with both internal and external artists, producers, and directors. Coming from an art background myself, I feel like I understand the needs of the artists and can come up with creative solutions so they have everything they need in order to thrive.
It seems like a mystery overall! Am I just a manager? Do I create art myself? Do I stare at Excel and Jira until my eyes hurt?
The people! We have an amazing team, and I genuinely enjoy working with my colleagues. I have met some of my closest friends here! I love that despite how different everyone is, we get along, have fun, and manage to support and teach each other while creating our game. Moving to a new country for this job was scary, but I know that my team has my back no matter what.
Thank you, Anastasia, for sharing your day with us!
